After nine months of fun, Grady James decided that he was ready to meet Mom and Dad!
Here are the vitals:
6 lbs 12.5 oz
19 1/2" in length
Labor was very difficult for mom. She went into labor around 1 AM on the 23rd, and by 4 AM her contractions
were very intense. These contractions were occurring every 2-3 minutes and lasting for about 30-45 seconds, sometimes
for 1 1/2 minutes. Needless to say, she did not get any rest for the remainder of the night. By 5 AM her
contractions were even more powerful, and finally by 7:30 we took her to the hospital in Easton, MD.
When we got her to the hospital and they examined her, she was only dialated to one centimeter, so they decided to hold
her for a while, which they did until 12:30 PM. Through this entire period, Sarah was in labor-no more than four or
five minutes between contractions! Finally, they officially admitted her around 1 PM. Unfortunately, this did
not mean she was close to delivering.
After another TWELVE HOURS, two epidural shots, two liters of pitocin (labor-inducing hormone) and a whole lot of work,
Grady James was born at 3:38 AM May 24. It was an intensely tiring experience for mother, child and poor father.
Sarah did not get to rest either, as various nurses poked and prodded her every half hour for the next five hours.
Finally, Sarah has been able to rest, eat and even take a bath! So everyone is doing well!
